Diwali is different this time. We actually planned to travel to my native, myself and my sis. However, our parents came here and we had celebrations with our aunt's family.

The Diya's were lighted in the traditional way and the house was decorated. We even lighted few candles inside the house. The house is a recent construction and is getting decorated for the first time for Diwali.

While decoration is going on, Kids have started playing the crackers. Teanants of the houses as well as my cousin's cousin's too joined.. Flowerpots, CRackers, Bombs, Shooting stars, Rockets, all these were fired.
Though the day started with a mishap of losing some jewellery, it ended peacefully, with out any problems

Some more memories soon

Crazy about History - 2

I am still crazy about history. I regret now why I had not taken history as my subject.

There is something in past that fascinates me. Might be the different stories afloat or the mysteries surrounding the people of that time, there is something that is there.

when I came to know about Indian History in brief, and some little info later, I felt that there were a lot of missing links. Glad that I was right. What ever we read about India in books is very little, not even .1% of its great history.

Where in the history books is it mentioned about the visit of St.Thomas, one of the Apostles of Jesus, to India? Where are we getting info about the origin of Christianity, the famous Syrian Christians, St.Thomas Christians?

Have anyone read about the landing of Jews in Kerala and the details of the one of the Oldest Synagougues in the world present at Fort Cochin?

What about the history of Nagas who were the original inhabitants of Srilanka, and Southern Most part of India? How come we are seeing them only in Nagaland now?

These are some of the few points that I came across over internet.

Thanks to Internet and people intrested in sharing their knowledge, I am learing a lot

Kamat's Potpourri: Biography of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar

Kamat's Potpourri: Biography of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar:

I am a crazy fan of history. More crazy when its related to India.

India had gone through different phases and one is the struggle for independence by different kindgdoms of India, from the rule of Britishers, French and Dutch.

The legacy of different kingdoms and kings, their work for the society, the architectural marvels, the fights , all these are a wonder for me.

Veer Savarkar, is one of the intriguing personalities for me and here is a link to his life history...

MusicalNirvana - Articles on Ustad Bismillah Khan

MusicalNirvana - Articles on Ustad Bismillah Khan

Browsing the net, an article on Ustad's name in TOI caught my eye. Sensing something wrong, I opened it only to find that he passed away on 17th. Inspite of being on net every day, for more than 16 hours, reading ET frontpage everyday, I was unaware.

He is one of the Musical Mastero's whom I prefer to listen at any time of the day. classical music is my way for relaxation, whether its Carnatic or Hindustani, Vocal or instrumental, its always melodious when played by experts. Many a times, after returning from a hard day at work, feeling tired, I switch on the music and get a soothing sleep. However, the same is not felt if u try to relax watching TV. Reading is another aspect that provides me with the required relazxation.

Coming back, it is sad to learn that he passed without fulfilling his last wish. He is said to be a man of Simplicity. I feel that in this world where every thing is done for monetary benefits, he is never learnt to do that, else, for his skills, he would have been sitting in riches.
